Most people dream of someday having the perfect wedding with someone they love. But unfortunately, weddings are known to be extremely expensive. From wedding dresses and venues to catering and decorations, most weddings will burn a hole in your wallet. However, that was not the case for Jamie and Sam Phillips.

An Affordable Wedding

When Jamie-Louise Phillips, 22, and Sam Phillips, 25, decided they wanted a wedding without all the fuss, they started looking for ways to tie the knot without breaking the bank. They were amazed when they learned that their local registry office was in Norwich Castle, and apparently, they spent just £270 ($350) on a legal ceremony.

However, after struggling to find an affordable venue for their wedding reception, they hired an Airbnb for three days, which set them back £600 (almost $800). They decided to decorate the Airbnb’s garden themselves, hiring furniture for £300 ($400) and buying flowers from a local farm for just £85 (112).

Amazingly, they spent just £200 ($260) on food when they decided to order Domino’s pizza for their guests. The average wedding in the UK is said to cost roughly £20k ($26k), but they spent only £3k ($3.3k) on their perfect wedding.

Talking about their wedding, Jamie said, “We didn’t want to be financially affected by it. We just looked at how budget friendly we could do it. Everyone said it was the nicest wedding they’ve been to and they said they felt so relaxed.”

How They Met

Four years ago, Jamie and Sam met on Tinder and fell in love. The couple bought their first home together in the summer of 2022. After four happy years together, they decided to tie the knot.

Jamie said, “We’re so close as people – we’d never be able to keep such a big surprise. We agreed we’ll get married in 2023. We went to the beach one day, and he gave me a ring I’d already picked out. It was really casual how it happened. It felt there was no pressure.”

Jamie used Canva to create their wedding signage and purchased stickers on Etsy for their wedding favors. She found the perfect wedding dress online and spent £500 ($660) on the silky gown and alterations that she’d had “pinned on Pinterest for years”.

Talking about the wedding, she said, “It was the most relaxed morning. We spent an hour apart and then drove to the venue together.”

The couple went around the city with their photographer, which only cost them £150 ($200), before returning to the Airbnb by 4 pm. That was when they ordered Domino’s pizza, which their guests loved.

In the end, Jamie and Sam had the perfect wedding, and they managed to keep it affordable. They spent just $3.3k on their entire wedding.
