When you’re asleep, you expect to be left alone, and you certainly don’t expect someone to take pictures of you. One woman was beyond angry when she discovered her husband had been taking pictures of her while she was asleep and posting them to the family group chat. Reddit user KneeRevolutionary278 took to the popular subreddit r/AmItheA to share her story. We have all the details.
Taking Pictures
The woman explained that her husband had taken pictures of her while she was asleep. But this didn’t happen just once. She expressed how much she disliked it the second time, expecting him to stop. But when she woke up one morning and discovered that her husband had posted pictures of her sleeping in a family group chat, she was furious and mortified.
In her Reddit post, she explained that after sternly asking her husband to stop taking pictures of her, she’d not “thought another thing about it” because she assumed he’d learned the lesson.
The group chat included her, her husband, and their three kids, one kid’s boyfriend, and their 14-year-old grandson. The picture he’d sent showed a “crazy contraption” she had been using, which massaged her head and eyes because she “went to bed with a headache.” She wrote, “I suppose he’s never seen me wear it? I’ve had it for at least two years but I don’t know.”
She continued, “Anyhow, I’m so angry and upset. It infuriates me that I can’t sleep in my own bed in my own home without someone taking pics of me! It was so awful, I looked dead. My mouth was hanging open. Trust me. It was horrible, and I am just humiliated that my daughter’s boyfriend and even my own sons/grandson saw it. My daughter, no biggie but still not thrilled. Any ideas on how I should handle this? Am I overreacting?”
The Comments
People flocked to the comments, stating that her husband sounded like a “bully”. Maleficent-Leek2943 wrote: “That’s really disrespectful of him. He’s taking photos of you at your most vulnerable and sharing them so your family members can join him in mocking you? He sounds like a bully.”
Acbell3513 responded to this comment, saying, “A bully indeed. This goes beyond disrespectful. He is fully aware of how you feel about this and continues the behavior? That is clearly intentional, hurtful behavior disguised as a joke. I had similar “jokes” directed toward me by my ex-husband, and it took years for me to finally see them as part of a pattern of emotional abuse. I hope OP is able to take a step back and examine the situation as a whole, while at the same time taking precautions to protect herself.”
Peony-Pony said, “Maybe it’s time for separate bedrooms and a lock on your door.”
